1. Scaling and scaling can lead to the reduction of the heat transfer coefficient of the heat transfer equipment, and even block the plate channel in severe cases. The plates of the plate heat exchanger are designed with a large number of support points, which are designed to disturb the flow of the medium (to make the medium turbulent to improve the heat transfer coefficient) and to support the pressure. The side effect is that the fluid forms a local stagnation to form a scale accumulation. After the calcium and magnesium ions in the medium are precipitated at a suitable temperature, it is easy to attach and grow on the accumulation, forming a honeycomb-like scale. Although the causes of blockage and scaling are different, the effect on the plate heat exchanger is the same. The following countermeasures can be taken to alleviate structural problems: (1) The plate heat exchanger should not be used in a dirty or fouling environment (unless other effective measures are added). (2) When using unsoftened cooling water as the cooling medium, the operating temperature should be controlled at about 50 °C or lower to avoid the sensitive temperature of calcium and magnesium ions in the medium. 2. The pressure affects the leakage of the disassembled plate heat exchanger when it is used within the rated working pressure. In addition to the quality factors in the manufacturing and assembly of the equipment, it is mainly related to the abnormal impact load (water hammer, air hammer) in the system. This is a phenomenon that is not easily observed by ordinary operators. The instantaneous pressure peak caused by the impact is often 1 to 3 times higher than the normal working pressure, which displaces the rubber gasket installed in the plate heat exchanger and causes the seal to fail.

In some cases, in order to guarantee the reliability and continuity of operation and maintenance, this should be the case even if the equipment is expensive. Otherwise, even in the event of a short-term shutdown, the losses will exceed the investment cost. (3) When multiple heat exchangers can meet the technical requirements, the heat exchanger with the smaller sum of fixed cost and variable cost within a certain period (usually one year) should be selected. (4) It can be seen from the economic calculation of the heat exchanger that a heat exchanger with high efficiency does not mean that it is suitable. In fact, a heat exchanger with a small heat transfer area and a large heat transfer rate is an economical and excellent heat exchanger. (5) The appropriate operating time of the heat exchanger should be considered. After the heat exchanger is in operation, there will be fouling on the heat transfer surfaces. After prolonged use, the dirt will gradually thicken, thereby reducing the heat transfer coefficient. When the heat transfer coefficient drops to a certain value, the descaling operation should be stopped. Therefore, it is necessary for the heat exchanger to be descaled regularly. (6) When selecting the preheating method and the type selection of the heat exchanger, a detailed technical and economic analysis should be carried out first.
